Assessing endangerment of species and ecosystems is a key tool in measuring biodiversity loss, informing conservation, and following the impacts of conservation actions. This course clarifies how the risks of extinction and ecological collapse (for species and ecosystems, respectively) are evaluated as parts of red-list assessments that are conducted according to the IUCN methodology.

This is an independent online course and it can be completed according to your own schedule. The online course is considered completed once you have completed the required course activities. The latest possible completion date is September 30th 2025.

Registration requires a valid passport or an EU identity card, or a Finnish bank ID (verkkopankkitunnukset). Please read our registration guide before starting.

During the course you will study independently at Moodle learning platform. Participants are required to have basic ICT skills in order to work online. All the course materials are available throughout the course. Students can contact a teacher for guidance and support if needed.

Online registration instructions

Start the process by registering and creating a JYU user ID. Registration requires electronic identification (online banking identifiers or mobile ID). If you do not have Finnish online banking identifiers, you can use your passport or EU ID card for the identification process. Please note that you cannot use a Finnish passport or ID card for identification.

If you already have a JYU user ID, start the registration process by signing in with your email address and password.
